Associate AGL Engineer
Sohail Ahmed Choudry brings a unique combination of over 16 years of Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) engineering experience and extensive practical expertise in off-grid solar energy systems to the Solar Airfield Lighting Association (SALA).
As an Associate AGL Engineer at RPS Group, he has contributed to major aviation projects, including London Luton, Dublin Northern Runway, Melbourne, Gatwick, Heathrow and RAF airfields. His experience in AGL design, construction and international aviation standards provides valuable technical expertise for developing safe and reliable solar airfield lighting solutions.
Beyond aviation, Sohail chairs the Alternative Energy Committee at IAAAE, leading volunteer engineering teams delivering solar PV projects across Africa. Since 2005, he has supported more than 600 off-grid solar installations, combining engineering knowledge with real-world experience in challenging environments.
His appointment to SALA brings together two essential areas of expertise: aviation safety and independent solar power systems. He will contribute to developing technical guidance, aligning solar AGL solutions with international standards and supporting their safe adoption at airports worldwide.
